Herb of the Month: Benzoin
Botanical Name: Styrax benzoin
Deities: Horned God, Solar Deities
Folklore: Benzoine resin is commonly used in incense making and perfumery because of its aroma and fixative properties.
Magical properties: A herb of purification burned to sanctify an area. The scent is also used to attract business when combined with Basil, Peony or Cinnamon. Dilute the essential oil and rub it into the body to increase personal power. It awakens the conscious mind. Burn to purify, protect, for prosperity, astral projection, or to increase mental powers. As a herb or oil it may be used in spells relating to solar matters (healing, illumination, magical powers, physical energy, protection, success and putting an end to legal matters). As a herb it may be used for spells relating to Mars (Physical energy, protection and success.)

Folklore: The ancient Greeks and Romans drank from Amethyst drinking vessels as they
believed it would protect them from intoxication.
Spiritual Uses: Spiritual awakening, honesty, inner peace.
Emotional Uses: Aids in coming to terms with loss, stimulates dreaming, inspiration, and intuition.
Physical Uses: Amethyst helps balance the nervous system and the brain. Amethyst
boosts production of hormones, and tunes the endocrine system and metabolism. It
strengthens the cleansing and eliminating organs and the immune system. It relieves
physical, emotional, and psychological pain or stress. It eases headaches and releases
tension. It also reduces bruising, injuries, swelling, and hearing disorders. It
heals un-easiness of the lungs, respiratory tract, skin conditions, cellular disorders,
and the digestive tract. Treats insomnia and brings restful sleep.
Magical Properties: Dreams, peace, love, protection particularly against thieves, courage, happiness, purification. Amethyst is an extremely powerful and protective stone. It is also a stone of meditation. It enhances spiritual awareness and stimulates the mind, psychic abilities, and one’s connection to the other realms. Amethyst allows one to gain a deeper understanding of the root cause of life experiences, which in turn, facilitates the ability to overcome addictions and blockages of all kinds. Amethyst assists in eliminating emotion-based decision-making allowing one to take actions based on higher guidance and spiritual understanding. Amethyst provides clarity and assists in identifying damaging beliefs, behaviours, and habits that have created an energetic imbalance in the physical realm. Amethyst enhances memory and improves motivation and being able to set realistic goal. It balances highs and lows and dispels anger, fear, and anxiety. You can tell your problems to an Amethyst crystal and then give the stone back to the Earth. It will take your problems with it.
